This month AUFSS made a donation to Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand. We work in lending every day, so we see first-hand what the right credit can do for a family, and what the wrong credit can do. Supporting safe, fair credit for people who have run out of options felt like the right way to give back.

Who Good Shepherd are
Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand works alongside women, girls and families affected by family violence, financial hardship and disadvantage. In their own words, they:
- link women to short-term emergency housing when they need it;
- provide No Interest Loans (NILs) and financial counselling to women and their families who need help to stay in their homes;
- build safe, affordable homes, including dwellings in Marrickville, NSW designed for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and women over 55 escaping domestic violence.
Donations help keep these programs and services running.
Why this matters to a lending business
When the fridge breaks down or the car needs repairs, most people can put it on a card or borrow from family. For someone on a low income with no savings, the options can be a payday lender or a buy-now-pay-later account, and a small emergency can turn into a long-running debt.
Good Shepherd’s No Interest Loans are a safe alternative. According to the NILs website, eligible people can borrow up to $2,000 for essentials such as household appliances, medical costs, education or car repairs, and up to $3,000 for a rental bond, repaid over up to 24 months with no interest and no fees. The supplier is paid directly. The program is designed for people on lower incomes, for example Health Care Card or pension holders.
As a broker, our job is to match people with credit that genuinely suits them. Programs like NILs do the same thing for people the mainstream lending market doesn’t reach. That’s why we chose to support them.
A warning worth sharing: fake No Interest Loan ads
Good Shepherd is currently warning the public about fake No Interest Loan social media accounts and ads. If you or someone you know is looking for a No Interest Loan, go directly to the official site at nils.com.au. Genuine NILs have no interest and no fees.
If you’re under financial pressure
- Talk to your lender early. Most lenders have hardship processes, and the earlier you ask, the more options there are.
- The National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 offers free, independent financial counselling.
- If you’re thinking about restructuring existing loans, send us a message or call 1300 968 888.
Giving back to the community is part of how we work, from sponsoring our local school carnival to supporting organisations like Good Shepherd.
AUFSS is not affiliated with Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand. This post describes a donation only; program details are taken from Good Shepherd’s and NILs’ own websites as at September 2026.
