Most businesses do the work, send the invoice, and then wait. Wages, suppliers, fuel and tax keep moving on their own timetable, and a healthy order book can still leave a tight bank account. Invoice finance sits in that gap. It works with your receivables ledger, so the value of completed work becomes available as working capital rather than sitting on paper until a customer gets around to paying.
Where it tends to fit
- Businesses invoicing other businesses on commercial payment terms
- Trades, labour hire, transport, wholesale and manufacturing, where payment terms sit well behind the work
- Growth that outpaces cash, where winning more jobs means paying more wages before anything arrives
- Seasonal or lumpy workloads that make cash flow hard to smooth out
What gets looked at
Because the funding is tied to invoices, attention shifts towards the quality of the debtor book: who the customers are, how reliably they pay, and whether invoices are for finished, undisputed work. Clean record keeping matters. Accurate invoices, signed job sheets or delivery dockets, and up-to-date bookkeeping all make the picture clearer. Arrangements also differ in practical ways, including whether customers are notified, who follows up payment, and whether the whole ledger or only selected invoices are funded. Whether any of it suits a particular business depends entirely on that business’s own circumstances.

Hi, I'm Jack Si from Australian Finance Service Solutions.
Invoice finance lets you access the value of an unpaid invoice before your customer actually pays it, instead of waiting thirty or sixty days. It's not a loan against your business as a whole, it's built around invoices you've already issued for work you've already done.
